Gilda Cordero Fernando

Gilda Cordero-Fernando’s contribution to Philippine cultural life extends beyond the fiction  she  wrote in the 1950’s and 1960’s. Her engagements in the fields of Filipiniana publishing,   culinary history, costume design, merit similar celebration.

The  Ateneo Library of Women's Writings (ALIWW) invited twenty four women – not just in the field of fiction but also in the other areas e.g. Filipiniana publishing, culinary history, costume design, etc. – to donate their print memorabilia (published and unpublished  work, photographs, diaries, correspondence) as a complementary mode of honoring the  contribution of Gilda Cordero-Fernando to Philippine cultural life.

This occasion also marks the 7th Paz Marquez Benitez Memorial Lecture, which featured a brief lecture on the fiction of Gilda Cordero-Fernando by Dr. Cristina Pantoja-Hidalgo,   Director, UP Creative Writing Center.
