Lualhati Bautista
 
 
Lualhati Bautista is a fictionist and a movie scriptwriter.  Her first screenplay was Sakada (Seasonal Sugarcane Workers), 1976, which exposed the plight of Filipino peasants.  She is a prizewinning novelist in the Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature.  She received a Recognition Award from the Surian ng Wikang Pambansa in 1897.  Two of her short stories also won the Palanca Awards: "Tatlong Kuwento ng Buhay ni Juan Candelabra"  (Three Stories in the Life of Juan Candelabra), first prize, 1982; and "Buwan, Buwan, Hulugan mo Ako ng Sundang" (Moon, Moon, Drop Me a Sword), third prize, 1983.
