RIZAL LIBRARY VISITOR'S GUIDELINES

The Rizal Library is open to Ateneo de Manila University alumni and retirees, students from other colleges and universities, private companies, government and non-government organizations, as well as to private individuals who would like to do research and use the library’s vast collection of information sources.

The guidelines for library visitors are as follows:

1. Alumni

Free access and on premise use of the library’s collection and facilities (except for computer and internet terminals) for the first (3) visits (per semester) after which a research fee of  P100.00 per day will be charged.

2. Alumni - Order of the Blue Eagle (OBE)

Unlimited and free access to the library’s collection and facilities (except for computer and internet terminals). OBE members are eligible to borrow a maximum of 2 books at a time, good for 2 weeks after a deposit of P600.00 per book. The deposit is refunded upon the return of the book. For more information please inquire at the Circulation Counter.

3. Alumni - Ateneo Alumni Association (AAA)

Unlimited, free access, and on premise use of the library’s collection and facilities (except for computer and internet terminals).

4. ADMU Retirees

Free access to the library’s collection and facilities (except for computer and internet terminals). ADMU retirees are eligible to borrow 3 books at a time, good for one month.

5. Undergraduate students

On premise use of the library’s collection and facilities (except for computer and internet terminals) after presenting a validated school ID, referral letter from the school’s librarian (every visit) and paying a research fee of:

P30.00 per day (Monday - Friday 2:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. only)
OR
P50.00 per day (Saturday 8:00 - 6:00 p.m.)

6. Graduate and Post-graduate students / Researchers / Private individuals

On premise use of the library’s collection and facilities (except for computer and internet terminals) after presenting an identification card and paying a research fee of P100.00 (per day).

Note:

  • These charges do not include special services such as photocopying, scanning, and microprinting, etc.
  • High School students are not allowed to use the Rizal Library’s collection and facilities.

LOYOLA SCHOOLS DRESS CODE

Persons wearing the following clothes and footwear will not be allowed to enter the library:

  • Soiled clothes
  • Lounging/gym/athletic/cycling shorts
  • Short shorts
  • Lounging/gym/athletic tops and sleeveless shirts (for men)
  • Low-cut/backless/strapless tops and bare midriff
  • Very short skirts/dress
  • Very low-rise jeans (low-waist)
  • Slippers - type of footwear consisting of a sole secured to the foot by straps over the instep only (Y-shaped strap)
  • Other kinds of clothing that run counter to the guidelines in the memo on the Dress Code dated 6th December 2007.

AHC GENERAL POLICIES

  • Researchers must register at the daily logbook upon entrance at the AHC room.
  • Researchers must present the Ateneo ID or visitor's ID to use the collection.
  • Researchers must fill up the Request Form Slip when borrowing materials.
  • Researchers are permitted only at the AHC reading area, thus, not allowed at the stack area.
  • Researcher is responsible for returning all borrowed materials to the staff.
  • Library’s materials are for room use only.
  • No materials may be transferred to another researcher.
  • No materials may leave the AHC room without permission from the library staff.
  • As a security measure, the staff reserves the right to inspect researchers, and materials used at reading tables.
  • Group discussion and phone conversation is not permitted
  • Eating, drinking, and sleeping is prohibited.

LIBRARY FEES AND OTHER CHARGES

  • Student's Library Fee: P30.00 per day (Monday - Friday 2:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. only) or P50.00 per day (Saturday 8:00 - 6:00 p.m.)
  • Researcher's Fee: P100 per day
  • Use of photographs: P100.00 per image for original photographs and P50.00 for photos from from books and periodicals (Note: Photo use fee is waived for Ateneo students and faculty)
  • Scanning fee: P15.00 per image, text only; P30.00-P50.00 per page with image
  • Blank CD: P25.00
  • CD Burning: P30.00
  • Laser printing: P4.00 per page, text only; P10.00 per page with image
  • Colored printing: P10.00 per page, text only; P20.00-40.00 per page with image

AHC is located at the:

The library's materials are for room use only. Its personnel are available for consultation and guidance in using the holdings.

It is open weekdays from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and Saturdays from 8:00 am to 12:00 nn.

CARE OF THE COLLECTION
  • All material must be handled with care. Marks may neither be added nor erased; tracing and rubbing are prohibited. Loose sheets and volume pages should be handled by their edges. The surface of photographic prints is not to be touched. Cotton gloves (supplied by AHC) must be worn when examining photographs.
  • Due to the potential harmful residue from ink, only pencils and laptop computer may be used for note taking purposes (pencils are supplied upon request).
  • Persons charged with mutilation, destruction and theft of material are subject to prosecution.
  • For the protection of its collections, AHC reserves the right to restrict access to materials which are not arranged, are being processed, or are exceptionally valuable or fragile. In some cases, photocopies may be substituted for the originals.

 CONDITIONS FOR THE USE OF THE PHOTO COLLECTION
  •  To use the photographic copy only once and only for the purpose of intended use. Any subsequent or different use (including subsequent editions, book club editions, paperback editions, different languages, etc.) constitutes a reuse and must be applied for in writing. There is a reuse fee.
  • To credit properly. The following is the basic credit line : American Historical Collection, Rizal Library, Ateneo de Manila University, Quezon City.
  • With printed matter, it is preferred that the credit line appear on the same or facing page as the illustration.
  • With films and filmstrips, include the credit with the “Sources of Illustrations”. In manuals that accompany filmstrips, credit at the point where the illustration is discussed.
  • With exhibitions, credit within exhibition area.
  • To give to the American Historical Collection one complimentary copy of any published work, except motion pictures, in which the photographic copy appears.
  • To indicate in the accompanying caption or label any and all changes that you have made to the original photographic copy, such as taking a detail, superimposing, tinting, etc.
  • Not to reproduce the photographic copy as a dust jacket, an end paper or use in the advertisement or any commercial use of a similar nature, nor to mass reproduce as unbound material.
  • The American Historical Collection reserves the right to limit the number of photographic copies, and to restrict the use or reproduction of rare or valuable material.
  • Note: Only low intensity light may be used.

PHOTOCOPYING RULES

  • Photocopying is allowed only for books and periodicals published from 1947 upward.
  • Photocopying may be subject to limitations arising from preservation priorities, copyright restrictions, and other factors.
  • Only 20 pages/title may be photocopied.
  • Materials maybe photocopied only at Filipiniana Secion of the Rizal Library.
  • Materials must be returned to the AHC room after photocopying is completed.
