Aida Rivera Ford

She founded the first school of Fine Arts in Davao, now known as the Ford Academy of the Arts. For her various contributions to its cultural life, the city of Davao honored her with the Datu Bago Award in 1982. In 1984 she received from the Philippine government a Parangal for Writers award.  In 1993 she was named an Outstanding Sillimanian by her alma mater.  That same year she was named National Fellow for Fiction by the UP Creative Writing Center.  She has directed two NCCA Mindanao-wide Creative Writing Workshops and two National Writers Workshops.  Currently she is President of the Mindanao Foundation for Culture and Arts.

In 1997 Rivera Ford put together the five stories in her first collection and added 13 new ones, most of them written in the 1990s.  This second collection is titled  Born in the Year 1900 and Other Stories (1997).

Mrs. Ford was honored on 12 November 2003 at a program hosted by the Ateneo Library of Women’s Writings (ALIWW). The occasion marked the 9th Paz Marquez Benitez Memorial Lecture.
