The Ateneo Library of Women's Writings pays homage to Linda Ty-Casper by devoting the 8th Paz Marquez-Benitez Memorial Lectures to her prodigious output in Philippine fiction. A permanent resident of the U.S. since the sixties, Ty-Casper has been writing fiction on the Philippines and Filipinos for the past 45 years. She has published ten other historical novels. Among these are The Peninsulars (1963) and The Three-Cornered Sun (1979), the first two books of a trilogy on Philippine history up the beginning of the 20th century, of which The Stranded Whale is the last in the series. Dreameden (1995) re-enacts the 1986 EDSA Revolution. The annual Paz Marquez Benitez Memorial Lectures focus on The Stranded Whale, the latest and 11th historical novel by Ty-Casper, which was also launched after the lecture. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Ma. Teresa Martinez Sicat, held on November 13, 2002 at the Social Sciences-Audio Visual Room of the Ateneo de Manila University. |
