Abstract

In 26, December 2004, a tsunami destroyed the coastal communities in the North of Sumatra Island. Banda Aceh, the capital of Nangroe Aceh was among the worst destroyed because it was closest to the earthquake’s epicenter. It suffered massive losses of life and property. Libraries and library collections damaged. Fortunately, two of the special libraries where manuscripts are stored, the Ali Hasymy Foundation Library and the Library Pesantren and the BadanPertanahanNasional (Land National Agency) still had some manuscripts and land certificates that could be restored. This paper will describe the recovery procedures followed in restoring some documents and land certificates.
