John Hickok

 

International  Best  Practices  of  Library  Spaces: An   Exciting  Showcase of Innovative Physical and Virtual Library Services from Libraries All Over the U.S. and Southeast Asia

John Hickok is an Instructor and the Outreach Librarian at California State University, Fullerton (USA), specializing in outreach to international populations and cross-cultural library cooperation for over 10 years.  He has been conducting ongoing research on comparative library conditions in Southeast Asia, including "Best Practices" in library services.  John is a chair of the American Library Association's International Relations Round Table Orientation Committee, welcoming international librarians to ALA's annual conference each year.  He is the author of several book chapters and journal articles on library services to international populations.

Abstract

Conference participants will be inspired by a showcase of exciting and innovative new library practices/services!  This will be done by presenting real, "Best Practices" examples from libraries all over the U.S. and Southeast Asia. By experiencing this presentation, conference participants: (1) will be able to identify real libraries doing real innovations (all over the U.S. and Southeast Asia) in terms of physical and virtual spaces; (2) will be able to identify the step-by-step procedures to implementing these innovations. This will be an exciting presentation!  It will be an engaging, multimedia presentation of photos, video, sound, and more…with step-by-step instructions on how to implement innovations in the conference participants' own libraries.
